Thinking About Auditioning for Midwest Edge?
What makes the MWE Dance Company the best in the area?
MWE believes that success and growth can be achieved with balance! So many other studios train hours and hours a week, allowing no time for family and other various activities. Midwest Edge sets itself apart because not only are our dancers growing and becoming extremely talented, but they can achieve their goals and ambitions in a healthy amount of time and commitment to the studio.
Our dancers train in a FUN and healthy environment where we promote and foster responsibly, teamwork, dedication, a good work ethic, and a passion for dance. Our instructors not only teach great technique, fun and edgy choreography, but we try to instill morals and values to our dancers of all ages.
Midwest Edge is becoming better known and recognized in the area. After a successful competition season, MWE is ranked with the top studios in Illinois. Here at MWE you will find age appropriate dances and costumes that allow kids to stay kids! Our top priority is keeping the dancers passionate, challenged, motivated and happy!
How does the audition process work? Should I encourage my dancer to audition?
We try to make the audition process professional and at the same time fun and relaxed. We realize that many dancers become very anxious and nervous. We run auditions similar to how a class is taught. Your dancer will warm up, do some progressions across the floor, learn a short choreographed routine and audition in a small group in front of the judges.
I always encourage a dancer to audition. The process is a great experience and even if your dancer should not be accepted into the company this year, it never hurts to get their feet wet. If they want a future in dance, the audition process is inevitable.
If my dancer was on company this year, does that mean they automatically move up?
Many dancers and parents get caught up in “moving up” in our company. I want to be clear that just because your dancer does not move up, that is not a bad thing! Groups tend to have more success when they have danced together and have a good chemistry.
We take the selection process VERY seriously, which is why we decided to have a call back day. That extra day will help up solidify any uncertainties we may have about your dancer’s placement. Midwest Edge stands firm on the placement of your dancer. They will be absolutely NO re-audtions and/or reevaluations of the groups you made. We would be more than happy to set up a meeting to discuss our decision if need be, but we will not reconsider our decision upon the request of the parent. In the short time of owning this business I have learned there is always an extreme exception or circumstance that may arise. In which case, we will privately discuss the matter with the parent and dancer.
If my dancer is accepted into company, what does that mean for the summer?
Dancers train year round at Midwest Edge. If you make a jazz company, you will be required to take a company class and a ballet class over the summer (Wednesday’s nights). Most dancers here take as many classes as they can, and we love that!
We know that families’ vacation, all that we ask is that you make your best efforts to be in classes for at least 3 of the 5 weeks we are in session. We feel that is a fair amount of time required to continue to grow and stay in dance shape over the summer.
*That requirement does not apply to Twinkle Toes or Company in Training, though they will be required to be enrolled in at least a ballet and jazz class.
What if I cannot make the audition?
Please contact the Studio in advance so that we can set up an audition for you prior to the scheduled auditions. This is only reserved for those who will be on vacation. There is no advantage/disadvantage either way, judging will remain the same in the audition process/selection.
*If you are a new dancer to Midwest Edge and miss the auditions, there will be a $50 cost to set up a private time to audition. Please email or call the studio if you missed the auditions and are interested in trying out for our company.
