Tiny Tots (Age 2) These dancers will have fun with movement and games to music while learning the first steps of dance! Dancers in this class will learn basic body movements, coordination, social skills such as taking turns, and how to use their imagination in dance! Children will need black tap shoes, and pink ballet shoes. They will participate in the Ballet Production in the end of the year recital. Pre Dance I (Age 3-4) Using fun music and purposeful games, your three and four year old will learn more about the fundamentals of ballet and tap in this class, as well as simple dance vocabulary that matches with the steps they are learning. There will be lots of opportunities to use their blossoming social skills as they learn to work in a group setting while having fun, fun, fun! Children in this class will be in a tap dance and the Ballet Production in the recital at the end of the year. They will need black tap shoes and pink ballet shoes. Pre Dance II (Age 4-5) Kids in Pre Dance II will work on expanding their dance skills, coordination, taking direction, and memorization of steps at this level. Class includes instruction in tap and ballet. The dancers in this class will be in a tap dance and the Ballet Production in the recital at the end of the year. They will need black tap shoes and pink ballet shoes. Pre Dance III (Ages 5-6) The dancers in this class will continue their study of tap and ballet, and will use the dance skills they have learned to begin exploring the world of jazz! Dancers will be challenged to understand musicality, direction, rhythm, and performance skills. Your child will be in two dances at the recital at the end of the year. First they will be in the Ballet Production, and secondly they will be in a tap dance that encompasses both tap and jazz techniques that they have learned throughout the year. They will need black tap shoes and pink ballet shoes. Ballet Ballet is the classical form of dance characterized by graceful lines and elegant movements. Ballet incorporates fluidity and flexibility as it develops strength and technique to support all styles of dance. Hair must be secured in a bun for this class. Pink ballet shoes required. PrePointe and Pointe Advanced ballet dancers may choose to move on to PrePointe and Pointe, which utilize the strength and skill of advanced ballet techniques to take their dancing to the next level. Jazz Jazz is a stylized form of dance that utilizes leaps, jumps, turns, isolations, progressions and combinations to create an exciting range of movements. Jazz emphasizes technique in a dynamic, energetic and expressive method that expands on basics learned in ballet. Students will be exposed to styles ranging from traditional to contemporary. Lyrical This beautiful style of dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz techniques with a contemporary twist. Students will learn grace, and poise as they learn to utilize great expression in dance performance. Our lyrical classes are very popular at the studio! Hip Hop Hip Hop is a very popular form of dance that embraces lots of energy and the latest cutting edge choreography! Dancers will study technique, showmanship, musicality and choreography to the newest pop music. Fierce Funk New to MWE this year, this class will challenge you to bring out your inner diva! This focuses on dynamics of movement with a “girly” twist. Jazz Tech 1-2 This class is formulated for dancers who have an interest in mentally and physically training for competitive dance. This fundamental class solely covers jazz technique that is necessary for a future Company dancer. Jazz Basics Does your dancer move, shake and shimmy around the house pretending to be their older sister or friend who is a jazz dancer at MWE? If they already have the move and groove down, let’s give them a basics class to cover all the fundamentals of Jazz. Ages 6-8. Pop Jazz This class bridges the gap between Jazz & Hip Hop and allows dancers to bust a fierce groove, while at the same time learn basic jazz techniques. Stretch/Flex Do you have 30 minutes to improve one of the most important components of dance? Flexibility is a key factor in the technique and performance of a dancer.
